Practice Summary - 11/1/2025

There's less than one week to go until the USA Hockey Special Classic at the Ice Vault in Wayne, NJ. The Dare Devils will be facing off against powerhouse programs from Boston (the Jumbos), Chicago, Cape Cod and Brick so it was imperative that the team kept their eye on the prize in this last practice session before the big tournament.

There was some nervousness amongst the coaching staff and executives that the team might be suffering from the day-after-halloween blues and/or too focused on paying respects in honor of Dia de los Muertos; but that was unfounded. The Dare Devils were all business today.

Practice started with the learn-to-skate session and we would once again like to shout out our junior coaches for continuing to put in yeoman's work with our newer skaters. Coaches Alex, Carmine, Colin and Trevor continue to go above and beyond in seeking out our players who are in need of one-on-one attention. It's a pleasure to see these young coaches putting in so much effort with their contributions to the team. Our players continue to improve every week and it's a testament to work our coaches put in.

After the open skate, Captain Ryan Griffin (updated Captain's Corner post can be found here) led the team through an abridged power skating session. This was followed by a tense scrimmage. The team was split into a red team and a black squad and they squared off for the last 45 minutes of practice. The game was evenly matched and led by the stellar goaltending of Coach T and the Tutor Shooter. The teams traded chances throughout but could only get a few pucks into the back of the net. Owen Silverstein scored two goals, Jimmy McTernan and Shea Passikoff each had a goal and an assist, Connor Hung netted one, Patrick Hung scored a goal and Liam Smith put home the goal of the game by going top-shelf to beat Coach T.  Tony He, Theodore Howard and Henry Barrios all played strong games and continued to show marked improvement. The defense was paced by Captain Ryan Griffin, Will Milazzo, Kevin Plunkett and Kory Wadleigh. Coach T was the star of the day after making numerous point blank saves to keep the black team in the game. After all of the efforts by both teams, the game ended in a tie.

Great work today, Dare Devils!
