12/3/23 Practice and Scrimmage with 12U AAA NJ Colonials Girls Team

Today, several Dare Devils B & C players were offered a memorable experience to practice and scrimmage with the ubertalented 12u AAA NJ Colonials Girls Team. The Dare Devils were represented by the following players: Patrick Hung, Connor Hung, Richie Sherman, Ari Berlin, Shea Passikoff, Madison Mitchell, James Cooney, Henry Barrios, Riley Chiselko Seickel, and Liam Smith.

The event started with a hard working practice. Colonials head coach, Todd Drevitch, took turns with Coach Myles to lead the joint contingent of Colonials and Dare Devils players through power skating drills, stick-handling drills and shooting drills. Coach Steve introduced the Dare Devils players to several new drills including cross-overs and dog-sleds, where Colonials players were paired up with Dare Devils and they took turns pulling each other across the ice. The Colonials players showed tremendous leadership skills as they all took the Dare Devils players under their wings and made sure that everyone knew what to do during the practice session. The talented Colonials goaltenders worked with their Dare Devils counterpart (Berlin) through positioning and stick-handling drills. Liam Smith, Richie Sherman, and Henry Barrios were particularly focused during the practice session and did an outstanding job in all of the drills.

The practice was followed by an intense scrimmage. The stars of the show were Dare Devils goalie Berlin and the pair of Colonials goalies. All of the goalies had several tremendous high-danger saves. The Dare Devils got off to a quick start as they caught the Colonials off guard with their blazing speed. Patrick Hung opened the scoring by going top shelf on a point blank shot. Chiselko Seickel, who worked on his snap shot at practice yesterday, ripped a snap shot to double the Dare Devils lead. Shea Passikoff and James Cooney quickly followed with two more Dare Devils goals. However, the Colonials settled in and gave a clinic in puck movement. The Colonials were whipping the puck around the ice and they slowly but surely chipped away at the lead. After some tense back and forth, the Colonials put in a goal in the closing seconds and the scrimmage ended in a just, 4-4 tie. Solid defensive contributions were put in by the following Dare Devils: Cooney, Smith, Barrios, and Connor Hung. Madison Mitchell had several offensive highlights but could not get one past the talented Colonials goalies.

A special thank you goes out to Coach Myles, Coach Billy, Coach Terence, Coach Steve Toledo, and Junior Coach Chase who represented the on-the-ice Dare Devils coaches.

Lastly, a heartfelt thank you goes out to the Colonials for offering this experience to our players. Our players love hockey and it was great to have this opportunity to enhance their skills. Thank you, Steve Choi (Colonials team manager), Coach Todd, the Colonials players and coaching staff for organizing this session!
