Practice and NY Raptors Game Summary - Jan. 14, 2024

If Charles Dickens managed the Dare Devils, he might say Sunday was the “best of times and the worst of times.” The best because we had practice and an away game the same day. And the worst because we had practice and an away game . . . the same day!

But it all worked out. While coach Myles was, so I’m told, away upstate “in search of lost time and pucks,” coach Billy (aka “the Last Boy Scout”) and the rest of our volunteer coaches held a well-run practice session in Codey Arena’s main rink. Here is the link to pictures Frank took at practice - thank you, Frank!

And our dogged beat writer coach Brendon was also away, enjoying “Chamonix-Mont-Blanc” (which I thought was a “soaps & scents” store at Willowbrook Mall; alas, it is not!).

But in stepped the man with our team’s most exotic name – John Smith – who provided yet another great game recap (see below).

Thanks to everyone who made the trip and the NY Raptors for graciously agreeing to host the Dare Devils! Alex Lynford, team manager and team photographer of the NY Raptors, was kind enough to share pictures he took of the game. The pictures can be found here. Thank you, Alex!

Dare Devils v. NY Raptors - Game Summary

By John Smith (#70 Liam's Dad) --

A group of Dare Devils made the trek across State Lines into Westchester County to take on their interstate rival NY Raptors. The Dare Devils came ready to play as evidenced by Reese Citro’s 2 goal outburst just 25 seconds into play. Reese scored goals 15 seconds and 25 seconds into the game. This jump started the Dare Devils offense and they never looked back en route to a victory.

The scoring was spread out with 6 players recording multi-goal games. Patrick Hung scored a team leading 5 goals. Owen Silverstein, despite being stopped on a penalty shot, had a hat trick of his own with 3 goals and an assist. Ryan Griffin chipped in 5 points with 2 goals and 3 assists. James Cooney and Aaron Quintana each had 2 goal games. Riley Chiselko Seickel and Patrick Law each scored a goal. Korey Wadleigh had a goal and an assist and played strong on the back end. Will Milazzo had 2 assists as his teammates scored off rebounds.

Liam Smith had an assist and was undefeated in the face off circle. Ayden Duran showcased his passing skills and could have had multiple assists if not for some good work by the Raptors goaltending. Connor Hung, as usual played a strong defensive game limiting the Raptors scoring chances. Sean Glassett was strong on the puck and helped create chances for his linemates.

Not lost in all this offense was another game of great goaltending by Ari Berlin who turned aside numerous high danger scoring chances including denying the Raptors captain on 3 breakaway chances.
